The Rivers State Police Command has arrested and dismissed several police officers accused of kidnapping, armed robbery, extortion, and stealing from residents across the state.

Speaking during a press briefing in Port Harcourt, the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, said Three serving inspectors attached to Zone 16 Headquarters in Yenagoa were arrested for allegedly abducting and robbing a man identified as Festus Saturday along Igbo Etche Road in Port Harcourt.

The officers stopped the victim while he was driving with his cousin, assaulted them, forced them to unlock their phones, and transferred money from their bank and cryptocurrency accounts (Over N7.3 million)

In a separate case, five officers attached to the Department of Operations (DOPS) Patrol Team of the Rivers State Police Command were dismissed after investigations linked them to repeated cases of kidnapping, extortion, and robbery between September 2025 and January 2026.

The police said the officers targeted unsuspecting residents across Rivers State, forcing victims to release their ATM details and banking information before withdrawing money from their accounts.

The five dismissed officers are expected to face prosecution after the case file was forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
