Cristiano Ronaldo’s wait for a first Saudi Pro League title continued on Tuesday after Al Nassr conceded a dramatic late own goal in a 1-1 draw against Al Hilal in Riyadh.
Al Nassr appeared set to move within touching distance of the league title before goalkeeper Bento fumbled a long throw into his own net in the eighth minute of stoppage time.
The late mistake handed second-placed Al Hilal a crucial point and stunned the home supporters inside the stadium.
Despite the setback, Al Nassr remain five points clear of Al Hilal with one match left to play, although their rivals still have a game in hand.
Ronaldo reacted to the result in a message posted on X to his millions of followers.
The Portuguese forward wrote: “The dream is close.
“Heads up, we have one more step to take! Thank you all for the amazing support tonight!”
Al Nassr can still secure the league title when they face Damac next week.
Ronaldo joined the Saudi club in 2023 after leaving Manchester United and is yet to win a domestic league title in Saudi Arabia.
The former Real Madrid star’s arrival helped increase global attention on Saudi football and was followed by several high-profile signings across the league, including Neymar and Karim Benzema.
