Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has described the All Progressives Congress governorship primary election in the state as a peaceful and transparent exercise that demonstrated the party’s dedication to internal democracy and broad inclusiveness.

The governor spoke after casting his vote alongside his wife, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, at Ward E3 on Lagos Island, where the primary was held.

He commended the direct primary system for giving grassroots party members the freedom to choose their preferred candidate without interference.

Sanwo-Olu expressed satisfaction with how the exercise was conducted, noting that party members turned out peacefully to fulfil their civic duty, and that electoral officials and party representatives carried out their roles in a professional manner.

He said he was particularly impressed by the level of participation at the grassroots level.

The governor also threw his weight behind Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, who stood as the sole aspirant in the primary.

He spoke highly of Hamzat’s experience and competence, expressing full confidence in his ability to lead the state effectively.

Sanwo-Olu credited Hamzat with making significant contributions to the achievements of the current administration and expressed belief that he would build on the developmental progress recorded over the years.

Also commenting on the exercise, Chairman of the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area, Alade Folawiyo, described the voter turnout as impressive.

He noted that Hamzat possesses the experience and depth of understanding needed to ensure continuity in governance and sustain infrastructural development across Lagos State.
