Mr Oghene Egoh, a former member of the House of Representatives, representing Amuwo-odofin Federal Constituency, said that the South-East geo-political zone will produce Nigeria’s President at the appropriate time.
Egoh made the statement in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, yesterday, in Lagos.
He urged people of the South-East to remain calm and continue to support the unity and stability of the country.
Egoh expressed optimism that the presidency would eventually rotate to the geo-political zone at the right time.
The former lawmaker commended the recent national convention of the NDC party but faulted comments credited to a presidential aspirant,Mr Peter Obi, regarding proposed one-term presidency.
According to him, the statement lacks clarity and does not reflect sincerity of purpose.
“The statement is unrealistic and does not convey genuine intention.
“Notable leaders from the South-East, including the late Nnamdi Azikiwe and Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, struggled for national leadership without making promises of a single term in office”, he said.
Egoh appealed to the South-East to support the second-term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He added that such support will strengthen the zone’s chances of receiving wider national backing when it became its turn to produce the president.
“When it is eventually the turn of the South-East, the zone will also enjoy support from other parts of the country”, he said.
Egoh also urged Nigerians to remain patient with this present administration’s transformation agenda.
He expressed confidence that President Tinubu’s economic policies would soon yield positive results.
