Teachers in Ogbomoso, Oo State, have staged a protest following the abduction of a school principal and several students by suspected terrorists who invaded a secondary school in Oriire Local Government Area.
The protest comes hours after gunmen reportedly stormed Community High School in Ahoro-Esinele community during school hours on Friday, firing sporadically before abducting the victims.
According to reports, the attackers kidnapped the school principal, identified as Mrs. Rachael Alamu, alongside an undisclosed number of students, while one teacher reportedly sustained gunshot injuries during the invasion.
Eyewitnesses said the armed men operated for several minutes without resistance before escaping through a nearby forest route. Residents also alleged that the kidnappers fled with the principal’s vehicle, allegedly using it to transport the victims out of the area.
The development sparked outrage among teachers and education workers in Ogbomoso, who took to the streets demanding urgent action from the government and security agencies over the worsening insecurity affecting schools and rural communities.
The Oyo State Police Command, through its spokesperson DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the incident and disclosed that tactical teams, patrol units, and intelligence officers had been deployed to rescue the abducted victims and track down the attackers.
Parents and residents have also expressed fears over the rising wave of school-related kidnappings across Nigeria, lamenting the poor security presence in rural areas and delayed emergency response.
