Amaechi made the commitment shortly after submitting his nomination forms at the national headquarters of the African Democratic Congress in Abuja, where he formally declared his intention to contest for the presidency under the party’s platform.………
During the event, Amaechi also criticised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, blaming it for the worsening economic hardship in the country.
He stated that many Nigerians are currently facing difficulties due to economic policies introduced by the present government.
According to him, the situation has affected households across different regions of the country, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or political affiliation.
The former Rivers State governor said the 2027 general election should not be based on ethnic loyalty or regional sentiment, but rather on competence, experience, and proven performance in public office.
He argued that Nigeria requires leadership that is focused on practical solutions to economic and social challenges rather than political division.
Amaechi maintained that his years in public service have prepared him for the responsibility of governing the country effectively.
Amaechi served as governor of Rivers State from 2007 to 2015, a period during which he was also actively involved in national political discussions and party development.
He played a significant role in the formation of the All Progressives Congress and later served as Director-General of the campaign council for the late former President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2015 presidential election.
His political career later led to his appointment as Minister of Transportation, a position he held from 2015 to 2023.
