According to a report made by the Jerusalem Post on Friday, 15 May, 2026, people familiar with the matter, revealed that the failed effort by the United Arab Emirates to launched an urgent diplomatic push to convince Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and other Gulf neighbors to join a coordinated military response against Iran during the recent had shed new light on widening rifts within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and might explain the subsequent withdrawal of the UAE from OPEC, and their rapidly deepening ties with Israel.………
A top American media outlet, reported that UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (MBZ) held multiple phone calls with regional leaders, including Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, shortly after the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran on February 28.
MBZ argued that a unified retaliation was essential to deter the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran under the leadership of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei for the long term, reminding his counterparts that the GCC was originally founded in 1981 precisely because of threats emanating from Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution.
