A man has taken to the streets to express his frustration after failing to land a job despite his impressive academic credentials.

TikTok user Ayomide Alokun joined many university graduates who grew up believing education was the key to success, yet he still remains unemployed.

He displayed his qualifications on a placard as he appealed to the president for a job, expressing his willingness to work and be productive.

“When we were young, we were told to read our books so we could become leaders one day. Now we have all the credentials in the world, but there are no jobs. It’s just so sad,” he captioned his video.

Dressed in official attire, Alokun pleaded for a job from the head of state, hoping for an opportunity that could change his life.

How old is Ayomide Alokun?

At 27 years old, Alokun revealed that he holds a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree in Political Science, and a PhD in International Relations.

“Mr President, sir, give me a job. I do not know how to use Yahoo. I don’t know how to sing like Burna Boy, and I don’t know how to play football like Victor Osimhen, but I have credentials,” his placard read.

As he sought a job opportunity, his facial expression reflected sadness and desperation as he appealed for much-needed help.

People and vehicles passed by as he proudly held up his placard, hoping for a breakthrough or miracle.

Netizens react to Alokun’s plight

His video went viral as it highlighted the struggles faced by many university and college graduates, with netizens flocking to the comment section to share their opinions.

J:

“I woke up this morning and cried my eyes out. I’m a graduate, but I regret ever going to school because those who didn’t even go seem to be doing better than me. A week after I graduated, I fell into depression. I’ve been fighting battles since then. I’m not lazy, I promise. I’m very hardworking, but there are no jobs anywhere. I need help, please. I’m a registered nurse-midwife.”

“You can become a lecturer now. Apply to different schools, especially private universities. They pay well. Information is key.”

Adeyemi Ogunnaike:

“You have a wealth of knowledge in your brain. You can start creating content by teaching people on TikTok and YouTube. You are still a young man.”

Ameti:

“At this point, I think my decision to ditch university and learn tech back in 2015 was the best. Funny enough, no employer has ever asked if I’m a graduate.”

productdesigner_agartz:

“Immediately after NYSC, I earned a master’s degree and was pressured by my mum to pursue a PhD. I had to relocate to another city to become independent and start making money. I’ll still do the PhD later, but I don’t see the need for one unless you’re already employed as a researcher or lecturer or have a defined career path.”

Sarah Web:

“We were raised with the mindset that ‘just read your books, and you’ll be successful.’ But the world has changed. Education is important, yes, but today, knowledge alone is no longer enough. We must learn valuable skills, build businesses, create opportunities, and become adaptable. The narrative has shifted from only passing exams to solving problems and creating value. It’s sad, but that’s the reality.”
