According to a report by Daily Post on Sunday, May 17, 2026, a Controversial Islamic scholar, Ahmad Gumi, has claimed that the United States is focused on gaining access to Nigeria’s natural resources.
He made the allegation while speaking about the activities of Western nations and their relationship with developing countries.
The cleric shared his position through a post published on his official Facebook page, where he expressed concern over what he described as foreign interference in the affairs of sovereign nations.
He stated that powerful countries often pursue their own interests in weaker nations under different pretenses.
Gumi described Western countries as predators, alleging that their involvement in countries like Nigeria is largely driven by economic and strategic interests.
According to him, the attention being given to insecurity and terrorism in some regions may not be entirely separated from wider international interests.
The Islamic scholar also raised concerns about Nigeria’s sovereignty, insisting that citizens should pay attention to issues that could affect the nation’s independence and control over its own resources.
He maintained that national interest should remain a priority for Nigerians.
His remarks came amid ongoing discussions surrounding insecurity, terrorism, and foreign influence in Nigeria.
The comments have also added to debates on how international powers relate with African countries, particularly those with vast natural resources and strategic importance.
Gumi has in the past made public statements on insecurity, banditry, and negotiations involving armed groups in parts of northern Nigeria.
His views have often generated debate because of his outspoken position on national security and political matters affecting the country.
He said, “Nobody cries for terrorists. But every patriotic citizen should cry for our sovereignty.
