Kenyans are still in shock following the fire incident at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil, Nakuru county.

Parents flocked to the school compound early Thursday morning, hoping to check and confirm the safety of their daughters.
The fire broke out at around 2 am on Thursday, May 28, in the school dormitory while students were still asleep.
At least 16 students from the school have been confirmed dead.

Utumishi Girls Academy parent breaks down in tears
A video captured a devastated mother hysterically crying and asking for information about her daughter. She could not hide her pain as onlookers and security officers tried to hold her back.

She paced around the compound, screaming and asking questions, noting that there was a need for tighter security in schools.
As she walked, the police present tried to hold her back, but parents and guardians at the school asked them to let her be.
“Hao wenye wamekufa wako wapi sahii, wazazi wa wale wenye wamekufa wako wapi sahii? We need tight security in our school in Jesus name, tuko na kilio,” she cried.
She kept walking with no particular direction, showing how deeply the inferno had affected her.
Luckily, she eventually found her child and the two were reunited.
“I came all the way from Githunguri. I was so sad. But I am so happy that my daughter is safe. We need a thorough investigation. I cried all the way from Githunguri to here,” she stated.
Kenyans comfort grieving Utumishi Girls parents
Gakenia Gakeni:
“We do not only need security officers but mental health specialists on the ground.. a people who understand the need to let people mourn their way till they naturally calm down before anybody disrupts them. Trying to suppress her expression to shock and pain won’t help.”

How many students were at Utumishi Girls when the fire broke out?
In related news, NgGossips reported that Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba revealed that there were 808 students present at the school when the fire incident occurred.
CS Ogamba said the fire broke out at 12.45 am, killing 16 students, while 79 others sustained various levels of injuries.

He stated that there were 200 students in the dormitory that caught fire, adding that the cause of the blaze had yet to be determined.
Ogamba further said anyone found responsible for the tragedy would face the long arm of the law.
