The seven were airlifted to Nairobi to receive specialised treatment and care in an effort to save their lives.

Images shared online captured the students lying on stretchers as they were placed inside a military chopper ready to be flown to Nairobi.

By press time, parents of those who perished in the fire had yet to confirm whether they had been allowed to identify the bodies or remains of their daughters.

Following the incident, the school was closed indefinitely as investigations into what caused the fire commenced.

Kenyans show concern for Utumishi Girls Academy students

Kenyans online have continued to mourn the tragedy while calling for stronger fire safety measures in schools across the country

Hillary Hillary:

“Firefighting, first aid and safety should be introduced as mandatory subjects in all schools.”

Kahuria Njogu:

“Why can’t it be mandatory to have automated fire extinguishers and fire suppression systems in dormitories just like in malls? This is not the first school where we have lost children. Until when? Very painful.”

Alfred Kitivi:

“To end school arson cases, every dormitory must have firefighting equipment, trained fire marshals, and tight security. Quick recovery to the girls and condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.”

Why did Kenyans call out content creator?

In related news, NgGossips reported that a TikToker identified as Adek Ttau has sparked outrage online after making insensitive remarks following the Utumishi Girls fire incident.

Adek allegedly celebrated the deaths at Utumishi Girls Academy, in addition to making tribal remarks.

He has, however, denied making the remarks, apologised, and offered condolences to the affected families.

A Nakuru police officer has urged the DCI and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission to investigate the circulating posts.
