Lagos, Nigeria – In a dramatic video that has gone viral, a policeman chasing a commercial motorcyclist (okada rider) for alleged extortion fell into a massive uncovered hole on a busy street in Lagos. The incident, which happened in broad daylight, has left many Nigerians laughing and shaking their heads at the same time.………
According to eyewitnesses and the trending clip, the officer was running after the bike man when he suddenly disappeared into the deep pit. The hole, which looked like an open gutter or construction ditch, was filled with dirty water. The policeman could be seen at the bottom, wet and struggling to climb out. He shouted for people around to help pull him up.
One onlooker quickly replied with a now-famous line: “Chase the bikeman out of the hole first!” The crowd burst into laughter as the officer remained stuck. Some people later brought a ladder or rope to rescue him. The bike man had already zoomed off during the chase.
Many Nigerians believe the officer was trying to collect money from the rider, a common complaint against some policemen at checkpoints. The video shows typical Lagos traffic and yellow buses in the background, confirming the busy city setting.
Social media reactions have been explosive. One user wrote, “Na so extortion dey end? Karma na master!” Another commented, “The hole don collect the bribe wey e for collect today .” People on X (Twitter) and Instagram called it “poetic justice” and shared the clip thousands of times. Some pitied the officer, saying bad roads and open ditches are dangers to everyone, while others joked that the bike man should get an award for “fast escape.”
