Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago has announced plans to formally gazette the zoning arrangement for elective positions across the state to ensure equitable power rotation.

Bago made the disclosure on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, during a strategic meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) critical stakeholders and aspirants at the Hauwa Wali Multipurpose Hall, Government House, Minna.

The governor said the zoning policy aims to promote fair rotation of power among the state’s 25 local government areas and guarantee long-term political stability.

“The Nigerian constitution does not stop anyone from vying, but there is an existing understanding and zoning arrangement in the state, and it has been working well.

“We are going to gazette zoning in Niger State so that power will revolve from local government to local government, and from constituency to constituency, for everlasting peace in Niger State,” Bago said.

He commended aspirants who stepped down from various contests to allow for consensus candidates, describing their action as a significant sacrifice.

The governor also praised the APC screening committee for conducting a smooth exercise without disqualifying any aspirants.

“The government will work closely with them and reward their sacrifices,” Bago assured.
