According to a report by The Times Of Israel on May 15, 2026, US President Donald Trump said he held discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Iran, stressing that both countries oppose Tehran obtaining nuclear weapons and support keeping the Strait of Hormuz open. The talks took place during Trump’s state visit to China at the heavily secured Zhongnanhai leadership compound in Beijing.………

Trump said the meeting covered a range of international concerns and highlighted what he described as progress in resolving difficult issues. “We’ve settled a lot of different problems that other people wouldn’t have been able to solve,” Trump says.

The comments come as tensions remain high in the Middle East, with global attention focused on Iran’s nuclear ambitions and security concerns surrounding key oil shipping routes. The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints, has remained central to international discussions because a large portion of global oil supplies passes through it daily.

Trump indicated that both Washington and Beijing shared an interest in preventing further instability in the region. His remarks suggested cooperation between the United States and China despite broader disagreements between the two powers on trade, security, and geopolitical matters.

The Beijing meeting marked another high-level diplomatic engagement between Trump and Xi as both leaders seek to address global crises and economic concerns. While specific agreements regarding Iran were not announced, Trump’s statements emphasized a mutual desire to avoid nuclear escalation and ensure uninterrupted passage through the strategic waterway.
