Chizy Enyi, the Rivers State ADC publicity secretary-elect, has stated that the political crisis in Rivers State worsened because President Bola Tinubu backed the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.………
Speaking during an interview on Silverbird TV, Enyi explained that Wike’s influence in Rivers politics increased after becoming a minister in Tinubu’s government. According to him, Fubara may not have expected the president to openly support Wike during the political dispute in the state.
Enyi said the governor’s main interest was to govern the state peacefully, but the crisis had continued to slow political progress and stability in Rivers State.
He also referred to the period when the seats of some members of the Rivers State House of Assembly were declared vacant by former Speaker Edison Ehie. Enyi claimed that at that time, Wike’s political strength had reduced before later returning after court judgments and the support he received from the presidency.
According to him, the Supreme Court ruling later changed the political situation in the state and strengthened Wike’s position again.
The crisis between Wike and Fubara has continued to create tension in Rivers State, with both camps struggling for political control and influence.
In his words, “When the governor said that the seats of the assembly members were declared vacant by the former speaker, Edison Ehie, and the matter went to court. Wike’s power was whittled down until that Supreme Court judgement came.”…....…
