A domestic incident in Port Harcourt has gone viral after a woman reportedly returned home from a night vigil to find another woman in her matrimonial bed with her husband.

According to accounts circulating online and from local sources, the wife arrived home early in the morning and met the scene at her residence. The situation escalated into a confrontation, during which the woman allegedly forced the other woman to strip naked and leave the house. Videos of the incident have since been shared widely on social media.

The exact location and date of the incident have not been officially confirmed by the police. As of now, the Rivers State Police Command has not released a formal statement on the matter. No arrests have been publicly reported, and it is unclear whether a formal complaint has been lodged.

Domestic disputes of this nature are common but often breach multiple provisions of Nigerian law. Assaulting another person, unlawful restraint, and publicly humiliating someone can amount to criminal offenses under the Criminal Code Act and the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act, 2015. Legal experts note that even in cases of suspected infidelity, taking the law into one’s own hands can lead to charges against the aggressor.

Women’s rights groups and legal advocates have urged caution in sharing the viral videos, citing the risk of further humiliation and potential legal consequences for those who recorded and distributed the footage without consent. They also encourage individuals involved in marital disputes to seek mediation, counseling, or legal redress rather than resorting to violence.

“Emotions run high in these situations, but violence is never the answer,” said a Port Harcourt-based legal practitioner. “The courts are there to address matrimonial issues, and assault or public shaming only complicates the matter and can turn the victim into the accused.”

Community leaders in Port Harcourt have called for calm and urged couples facing marital challenges to seek help from family counselors, religious leaders, or legal aid services available in the state….See More
