In a YouTube interview with content creator Lynn Zabu, Daisy Jenny recounted the emotional ordeal of being forced to leave Turkey after overstaying due to challenges in obtaining a residence permit.

Daisy said she first travelled to Oman, where she worked for about a year and managed to save enough money to buy land back home. She later relocated to Turkey after hearing about job opportunities from a Turkish recruiter.

“I just wanted to travel and achieve something for myself,” she said.

According to Daisy, life in Turkey was manageable because jobs were available in factories, hotels, farms and domestic work. However, obtaining legal documentation became increasingly difficult as authorities tightened immigration policies.

“I applied for the permit, but they wanted to reduce the number of foreigners. Even when you had papers, they denied you,” she explained.

How did Daisy finance her home?

The young woman said she eventually overstayed and was later placed in a deportation centre before being sent back to Uganda.

Despite the setback, Daisy had spent years investing in a house under construction in Uganda, which she financed gradually using her earnings abroad. She revealed that a trusted friend supervised the construction while she was still in Turkey.

“I would wait for my salary, then add something little by little,” she said, adding that the two-bedroom house took nearly two years to build.

However, returning home was far from easy.

Daisy opens up on deportation

Daisy disclosed that she arrived back home without money, furniture or basic household items. She even lacked the fare to get from the airport and relied on a friend to send her money.

“When I came back, I had nothing. Not even a bed,” she said.

For several nights, she slept on the floor using pillows and clothes to keep warm before neighbours stepped in to help with blankets. She later received support from online followers after sharing her story on YouTube.

Now back in Uganda for about one and a half months, Daisy says she is slowly healing emotionally and focusing on rebuilding her life.

“I have accepted that I am now home in Uganda and I have to deal with it,” she said.

A graduate in office management and secretarial studies, Daisy hopes to secure a job to complete her unfinished home. She also plans to venture into kitchen gardening and content creation through her YouTube channel, “Desley J.”

Although she says she still loves travelling, Daisy noted that her priority is stabilising her life and fully recovering from the trauma of deportation.

“I have to first fix this and heal,” she said.
