The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Zamfara State, Mahadi Aliyu-Gusau, has dismissed reports claiming that he has withdrawn from the state’s governorship race, describing them as false and misleading.

Mr Gusau’s position was conveyed in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Press Secretary, Salisu Mohammed, who described the report as malicious, fabricated and intended to mislead the public.

“We wish to categorically state that this report is false, baseless, mischievous and the handiwork of desperate political elements whose sole objective is to mislead the public, create confusion within the polity and undermine the democratic process,” the statement said.

Mr Mohammed maintained that Gusau remains the authentic governorship candidate of the ADC in Zamfara State and has not withdrawn from the race.

He stressed that at no time had the former deputy governor indicated any intention to step down or authorised any individual or group to speak on his behalf regarding such a decision.

“At no time has he withdrawn his candidature, nor has he authorised any individual or group to speak on his behalf regarding such a matter.

“Any publication, statement or social media post suggesting otherwise should be disregarded by party members, supporters, stakeholders, INEC and the general public,” the statement added.

The aide urged party faithful and supporters to ignore the rumour and remain focused on the party’s political objectives in the state.

He also called on the public to verify information from official sources before accepting or sharing reports relating to the ADC candidate’s participation in the governorship contest.
