Ondopress.com The Borno State Government has reintegrated 720 repentant insurgents who completed deradicalisation, rehabilitation, and reintegration programmes.

The latest batch, part of Batch 9 under the state’s initiative, was sworn in using the Holy Quran before being released to their communities.

The Special Adviser on Security said the Borno model is now “one of the most effective non‑kinetic programmes in the history of mankind.” Over 350,000 persons have voluntarily surrendered to the military since July 2021. The reintegrated include 992 spouses and 2,050 children.

Communities receive former fighters back, risking potential resentment but offering a path to lasting peace.

Vocational training (carpentry, tailoring, phone repair, etc.) aims to provide economic alternatives to violence.

Community leaders, Civilian JTF, and hunters screened the individuals before reintegration.

The programme has brought over 350,000 persons out of the bush, reducing insurgent ranks.

Starter packs were provided to support beneficiaries’ reintegration into civilian life.

Governor Zulum’s non‑kinetic approach continues to record successes, but proper community acceptance and sustained livelihood support remain critical.
