Comoros have booked a second-round clash with Nigeria’s Super Falcons in the qualifiers for the women’s football event at the 2028 Olympic Games after demolishing Sudan 30-0 on aggregate.

The East African nation completed the astonishing feat on Monday with a 13-0 victory in the second leg, adding to their commanding 17-0 win from the first encounter played on June 3.

The emphatic result ranks among the most dominant performances of the qualification campaign and underlines Comoros’ growing strength in women’s football.

Comoros seized control of the tie from the opening match, scoring within the first eight minutes before overwhelming Sudan with relentless attacking football. Nine different players were on target in the first leg, highlighting the team’s depth and attacking quality.

They carried the same momentum into the return fixture, netting three goals before halftime and adding 10 more after the break to complete another one-sided victory and secure passage to the next round.

The reward for their record-breaking performance is a daunting encounter against Nigeria’s Super Falcons, Africa’s most successful women’s national team and nine-time continental champions.

Nigeria head into the fixture as favourites following a series of encouraging displays under head coach Justine Madugu. The Super Falcons recently defeated Senegal 3-0 in a friendly match at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, having earlier recorded a 2-1 victory over the same opponents.

The second-round qualification matches are scheduled to take place between October 5 and October 13, 2026.

At the end of the qualification series, two African countries will earn spots at the women’s football tournament of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, United States.

With confidence high after their impressive performances, the Super Falcons will be aiming to overcome Comoros and continue their quest for Olympic qualification.
