Edo Queens have been crowned champions of the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) for the 2025/26 season.
They won the title after drawing goalless with Bayelsa Queens in the final round of NWFL Premiership Super Six fixtures at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Sunday.
This is their second NWFL title in three years for coach Moses Aduku’s team. Before the game, Adaaa Edo Queens were on nine points, needing only one point to be crowned champions.

“Edo Queens have been dropping chart-toppers all season, and the final track is gold! NWFL 2025/2026 secured — the victory anthem is loud, proud, and unstoppable. Adaaa Edo Queens,” the club wrote.

In the other games on the same day, Nasarawa Amazons drew with Rivers Angels, as did Abia Angels and FC Robo Queens.
The final standings showed that Bayelsa Queens and Nasarawa Amazons finished second on eight points each.
Abia Angels finished on six points, Robo Queens ended the campaign on four points, and Rivers Angels also got the same number of points
Edo Queens’ next task is to represent Nigeria at the WAFU-B Cup. That tournament serves as the qualification series for the CAF Women’s Champions League.

Meanwhile, Robo Queens’ Oluwakemi Adegbuyi was named the 2025/26 NWFL Premiership Player of the Season after a remarkable stint.
Fatima Okolo of Abia Angels was awarded the 2025/26 NWFL Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season after an outstanding campaign.
Rivers Angels scooped the Fair Play Award for the 2025/26 NWFL Premiership Super Six season, which was a recognition of their exemplary conduct on and off the pitch.
The top scorer gong went to Abasiofoh Uwah of Rivers Angels and Atume Doorsuur, who plays for Edo Queens.

In the meantime, Governor Monday Okpebholo has congratulated Edo Queens for their triumph in the NWFL, describing the win as a display of resilience, discipline, determination, and exceptional quality throughout the tournament.”
“Winning this prestigious title for the second time is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the consistency, excellence, and determination that define the Edo people. On behalf of the Government and good people of Edo State, I congratulate and celebrate the players, coaching crew, management, and supporters of Edo Queens for this remarkable achievement,” Governor Okpebholo wrote on his X handle on Sunday evening.
“This victory is not only a triumph for the club but also an inspiration to young girls across our state and beyond to dream big, work hard, and pursue excellence. As a government, we remain committed to supporting sports development and creating opportunities for our youths to excel on national and international stages. Congratulations, Champions! Edo is proud of you.”
Ex-deputy governor Philip Shaibu said the win is “a well-deserved reward” for players, coaches and officials of the team who “poured their heart into this season”.
“You have not only brought glory to Edo State — you have shown the world the power and potential of women’s football in Nigeria,” he said.
“As Director-General of the National Institute for Sports, I am proud to celebrate this milestone with you. Your success is proof that when we invest in sports development and nurture our talents with purpose, results speak for themselves.
“I commend the Edo State Government for its unwavering commitment to sports — the fruits of that investment are evident for all to see. To the Edo Queens: Africa awaits you. Go and make us proud!”
