A cloud of grief has engulfed the family of 22-year-old Hezron Macharia following his tragic death on Madaraka Day, June 1.

Macharia, a medical intern at a hospital in Keumbu, Kisii County, had reportedly gone out to relax at Village Park Hotel when tragedy struck.
He is said to have drowned in the hotel’s swimming pool, leaving his family devastated.
Video shows moments after Hezron Macharia died
Footage capturing the aftermath of the incident showed a group of youths pulling his body from the swimming pool after he was discovered unconscious underwater.

They held his hands and legs, lifting him from the water to the ground beside the swimming pool as those present gathered around to see.
Reports indicate that no one did first aid or CPR to try and bring him back to life raising further questions on how he died.
Macharia’s family has questioned the circumstances surrounding his death, suspecting there may be more to the incident than initially reported.
What did Macharia’s family say?
Speaking in a report by Citizen TV, his mother, Cecilia Macharia, demanded answers, noting that the hotel manager reportedly informed them that her son had not inhaled or swallowed any water from the pool.
She called on the hotel to release CCTV footage to help establish what happened in the moments before her son was found unresponsive.
“They said he was under the water for 20 minutes. When he was taken out, there was foam and blood coming from him,” said Cecilia.

The young man’s father, Josephat Macharia, also expressed doubts that the swimming pool was deep enough for his son to drown.
“No one can die in that swimming pool. Even if you dropped a chicken in it, it would not drown,” said Josephat, alluding to the pool’s shallowness.
According to reports, the medical intern, who was set to graduate in September 2026, may have remained underwater for more than half an hour before being retrieved, deepening the mystery surrounding his death.
Kisii Central Police Commander Musa Omari said investigations into the circumstances of Macharia’s death were already underway.
“We will conduct a post-mortem examination to determine whether he died as a result of drowning or something else,” he said.

Syokimau security guards drown in swimming pool
In other news, NgGossips reported that two adults drowned while having fun at a swimming pool in Syokimau.
According to reports, trouble began when one of the security guards started drowning, and his colleague jumped into the water in an attempt to rescue him.
Residents mourned the tragic double loss and urged neighbours to learn CPR and strengthen safety measures around swimming pools.
