Eunice Atuejide, who previously ran for president with the National Interest Party and is affiliated with the Nigerian Democratic Congress, has spoken out in support of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi amidst claims made against him by Kenneth Okonkwo, a prior spokesperson for the Labour Party.
In relation to the controversy involving Obi, Atuejide remarked that many Nigerians still back the former presidential candidate because they believe he is receptive to public inquiry and criticism.
She asserted that leaders should willingly engage with questions surrounding their actions and histories.
“I am not interested in following a person who has a criminal background and cannot be examined by the public,” she stated, while urging Kenneth Okonkwo to present any proof he claims to possess against Obi through the proper legal and public methods.
Atuejide mentioned that the current legal battle between the involved parties allows for all claims to be thoroughly reviewed and verified through due process.
She contended that transparency is advantageous for both political figures and their followers, as it fosters trust in those aiming for public positions.
The NDC member added that her endorsement of Obi stems from what she termed his long-established reputation for accountability, wise resource management, and dedication to serving the public.
She observed that if there is credible proof to question that view, it should be transparently shared and legally examined rather than based on conjecture.
Atuejide wrapped up by emphasizing that democracies flourish when people have access to truthful information about their political leaders.
She expressed her belief that the reality regarding the claims against Obi would ultimately be revealed through evidence and lawful procedures, not just public statements.
