According to report by Nggossips on Monday, June 8, 2026, former Senator representing Ogun Central and daughter of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party leadership in Ogun State of disrespect, exclusion, and poor treatment.

According to a resignation letter dated May 31 and addressed to the Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, and later made available to journalists, she said her decision followed repeated experiences that made her feel unwelcome within the party.

Prof. Obasanjo, who recently vied for the APC governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 elections, strongly criticised the process that produced Senator Solomon Adeola as the party’s consensus candidate.

She argued that the arrangement did not follow APC’s own internal guidelines, which require full consultation and agreement among aspirants before adopting a consensus flagbearer.

She claimed she was not properly carried along in the process and that the announcement was made without a prior meeting involving all contenders.

She also alleged that some of her supporters were prevented through violent means from accessing the venue where the decision was announced.

Despite her objections, she said she chose party unity over personal grievance and publicly congratulated the consensus candidate while pledging support for him.

She added that Adeola later reached out, appreciated her maturity, and met with her and her supporters, during which they made several requests that were left unanswered after weeks of waiting.

Obasanjo said the unresolved issues, coupled with earlier experiences of neglect and disregard, confirmed to her that she was no longer valued within the party.

She referenced a personal decision to “leave the table where disrespect is served as a constant dish,” explaining that she could no longer remain in such an environment.

However, she expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, Chief Yemi Sanusi, and other APC leaders who she said treated her with respect during her brief stay in the party.

She had joined APC in January 2026, and her governorship ambition gained attention after campaign-style billboards surfaced across Ogun State, fueling speculation about her political comeback ahead of 2027.
