The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered consignments of hard drugs concealed in water purifier machines shipped from the Netherlands to Lagos, while also intercepting military-grade ammunition and arresting suspected drug traffickers in separate operations across the country.

Key Highlights:

  • The NDLEA intercepted drugs hidden in water purifier machines imported from the Netherlands into Lagos.
  • Large quantities of illicit drugs, including skunk, tramadol, and other substances, were seized across Kaduna, Niger, and Enugu States.
  • Several suspects were arrested in connection with the drug trafficking operations nationwide.
  • The agency also recovered 380 rounds of military-grade ammunition being transported along the Abuja–Kaduna Highway.
  • NDLEA continued its drug prevention campaigns under the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) programme in schools and communities.

Femi Babafemi, Director, Media & Advocacy of the agency in a statement on Sunday, said operatives discovered and seized three kilograms of ketamine and 199 grams of MDMA, popularly known as Ecstasy, hidden inside water purifier machines at a courier company in Lagos on May 26.

In Kaduna State, NDLEA officers arrested a couple, Musa Sunday and Mercy Sunday, alongside another suspect, Salomi Ezekiel, following the recovery of 100 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 1,246 kilograms from their residence in the Gonin Gora area on May 24.

The agency also intercepted a 30-year-old suspect, Sunusi Musa, along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway, near Jere with 380 rounds of military-grade 7.62mm ammunition allegedly being transported to Katsina State.

According to the NDLEA, the suspect and the ammunition have been handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation and necessary action.

In Niger State, operatives acting on intelligence raided a warehouse in Gidan Kukah, Bosso Local Government Area, where they recovered 457 kilograms of skunk on May 27.

The agency said a suspect, Godwin Zakka, was subsequently arrested at his residence in the Gbeganu area of Minna in connection with the seizure.

A search of the vehicle reportedly led to the recovery of 22,000 tramadol pills, 100 ampoules of pentazocine and 200 grams of bromazepam.

One suspect, identified as James Maigari Wisdom, was arrested.

The agency said its commands and formations across the country also sustained drug abuse prevention campaigns under its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative.

The sensitisation programmes were conducted in schools and communities, including Government Secondary School, Adiabo, Cross River State; St. Patrick’s Memorial College, Wukari, Taraba State; Roman Catholic Mission Nursery and Primary School, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos State; and Kings Secondary School, Amawbia, Anambra State.
