The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has intensified efforts to commence operations at the Nigerian Oil and Gas Park, with plans underway to install a 2.5-megawatt Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) power plant to provide reliable electricity for industrial activities within the facility.

Key Highlights:

  • NCDMB to install a 2.5MW CNG power plant at the Nigerian Oil and Gas Park
  • Major infrastructure projects completed and ready for operation
  • Facility expected to create over 2,000 direct and indirect jobs
  • Manufacturing shop floors, water treatment plant, accommodation, and training facilities completed
  • Six additional manufacturing sheds planned for investors and service providers
  • Park aims to boost local content and reduce dependence on imported oil and gas components

The assurance was given by the General Manager, Corporate Communications of NCDMB, Obinna Ezeobi, following an assessment visit by senior officials of the Board to evaluate the level of progress at the facility.

The inspection revealed significant advancements across critical infrastructure and support systems designed to position the park as a major industrial hub for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

The Nigerian Oil and Gas Park Scheme was established to deepen local content development by creating an enabling environment for the manufacturing of equipment, components, and other inputs required by the oil and gas industry.

The initiative is also expected to stimulate economic growth, encourage industrial development, and generate employment opportunities for more than 2,000 Nigerians upon full commencement of operations.

Providing further details on the project, the Manager, Strategy and Transformation Projects at NCDMB, Mr. Olubisi Okunola, disclosed that several critical facilities within the park have been completed and are ready for immediate use.

According to him, completed infrastructure includes modern manufacturing shop floors, a fully functional water treatment plant, well-furnished accommodation facilities, classrooms, an amphitheatre, and residential apartments for trainers, facilitators, and visiting professionals.

Power Infrastructure Ready

In addition to the planned CNG power plant, NCDMB has completed major power infrastructure projects within the facility.

These include the switchgear building, transformers, and heavy-duty generators designed to ensure uninterrupted industrial operations.

To further expand manufacturing capacity, the Board has awarded a contract for the sand-filling of ponds located within the park.

Upon completion of the reclamation exercise, six new manufacturing sheds will be constructed to accommodate investors, fabricators, and service providers seeking to establish operations within the facility.

Strategic Hub for Local Manufacturing

Environmental maintenance activities, including landscaping and routine facility upkeep, are also ongoing to preserve infrastructure and maintain operational readiness.

Officials stated that current efforts are focused on ensuring all utilities and supporting infrastructure are fully operational before the facility officially opens for business.

When completed, the Nigerian Oil and Gas Park is expected to serve as a strategic platform for indigenous manufacturing and service companies, helping to reduce dependence on imported oil and gas equipment while strengthening local participation across the energy value chain.

Industry stakeholders believe the project could significantly boost Nigeria’s industrial capacity, create employment opportunities, and support the country’s drive toward greater self-reliance in the oil and gas sector.

A Major Test for Local Content Development

As Nigeria seeks to diversify its economy and strengthen domestic manufacturing, the success of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Park could become a major benchmark for local content development and industrial growth.

With critical infrastructure nearing completion and power solutions being deployed, expectations are rising that the facility could soon emerge as one of the country’s most important industrial assets.
