The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has suspended the 2026 Batch B Stream I orientation exercise for prospective corps members posted to Niger state due to ongoing renovation work at the state’s orientation camp.

The scheme announced the development in a notice issued on Sunday through its official X handle, assuring affected corps members that fresh arrangements would be communicated soon.

According to the NYSC, prospective corps members deployed to Niger State would be informed at short notice on the new location and date for the orientation programme.

The statement read, “This is to notify the general public and prospective corps members deployed to Niger State for the 2026 Batch B Stream I Orientation Course that their Orientation Course Exercise is suspended for now due to ongoing renovation work at the Orientation Camp.

“PCMs affected should note that they will be contacted at a short notice on where and when to report for their Orientation Course.

“The management regrets all inconveniences to the affected PCMs and their parents.”

The suspension comes months after a windstorm damaged several facilities at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Paiko, Paikoro Local Government Area of the state.

The incident affected critical infrastructure, including hostels, the multipurpose hall, kitchen and staff quarters, prompting the state government to commence rehabilitation work.

Governor Mohammed Bago had earlier directed the immediate renovation of the affected facilities to restore the camp to operational standards.

The latest development means prospective corps members deployed to Niger State will have to await further directives from the NYSC before proceeding with the orientation exercise.

The 2026 Batch B Stream I orientation course commenced nationwide on June 10 and is expected to end on June 30. However, corps members posted to Niger State will not participate until the scheme announces a new schedule.
