  • Candidates sitting for the 2026 WASSCE Agricultural Science practical in parts of Oyo State were reportedly forced to write their examination late at night due to delays in the delivery of materials.
  • The incident has sparked concerns over student welfare, safety and examination management.

Candidates sitting for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in parts of Oyo State were reportedly forced to complete their Agricultural Science practical examination late at night after delays in the arrival of examination materials.

According to reports, the late delivery disrupted the examination timetable, leaving students waiting for several hours before the practical session eventually commenced. Videos and images circulating online showed candidates writing under poor lighting conditions, with some relying on lanterns and mobile phone flashlights to complete their work.

The development has sparked concern among parents, education stakeholders and members of the public, particularly in light of the security challenges facing several parts of the country.

Many Nigerians questioned how candidates could be left at examination centres until late in the evening and called for better planning to prevent similar situations in the future.

Reacting to the incident, Pastor S.O. Solarin described the situation as troubling and called for accountability from the examination authorities.

According to him, the delays left many candidates stranded at their centres for hours beyond the scheduled examination period. He also urged the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to provide an explanation regarding the circumstances surrounding the delayed delivery of examination materials.
