A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has said President Bola Tinubu is “losing sleep” over the recent abduction of children in Oyo State, stressing that Aso Rock is deeply concerned about the incident.

Jibrin made the statement on Thursday while speaking to journalists in Abuja following reports that gunmen attacked a community in Oyo and took several children hostage. The lawmaker, who represents Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State, said the President has been receiving hourly briefings on the situation and has directed security agencies to prioritize the safe return of the victims.

“The President is not resting. Tinubu is losing sleep over these abducted children. I can confirm that Aso Rock is deeply concerned and everyone at the highest level is involved,” Jibrin said. “This is not politics. These are Nigerian children, and the Commander-in-Chief sees it as a personal challenge to his government.”

The Oyo attack, which occurred on Tuesday night, saw armed men invade a village on the outskirts of the state capital. Local sources said the attackers moved from house to house before leaving with an unspecified number of minors. The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the incident and said tactical teams, along with the military, have been deployed to track the abductors.

Jibrin disclosed that President Tinubu held an emergency security meeting with service chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, and the National Security Adviser within hours of the abduction. According to him, the President ordered that “all necessary resources” be deployed to secure the children’s release without casualties.

“The directive from Mr. President is clear: bring the children back alive. He told the security chiefs that no excuse will be accepted. The entire security architecture is now focused on Oyo,” Jibrin added.

The lawmaker also appealed to the public to avoid spreading unverified information that could jeopardize rescue operations. He noted that the President has cautioned against ransom payments, insisting that paying criminals only fuels more kidnappings.

Families of the abducted children have been pleading for urgent intervention. Community leaders in the affected area described the mood as tense, with many parents keeping their wards at home until security improves.

Jibrin said the National Assembly is in full support of the executive’s response and will approve any supplementary budget needed for intelligence gathering and special operations. He added that the President has also reached out to the Oyo State Governor to ensure federal and state collaboration.

“This government will not abandon its citizens. The message from Aso Rock is that every Nigerian child matters,” Jibrin stated….Discover More
