A former member of the House of Representatives for Esan Northeast and Southeast, Sergius Ogun, has publicly defended the political decisions of presidential hopeful Peter Obi.

​Speaking during an appearance on the Naija Unfiltered program, the former lawmaker responded directly to recent criticisms directed at Obi by Kenneth Okonkwo.

​Ogun explained that the former Anambra State governor had to leave his former party for the Nigeria Democratic Congress to protect his presidential ambition.

​According to the former representative, party leaders had previously informed him that Obi would not secure the presidential ticket due to internal party dynamics.

​He attributed this difficulty to the highly monetized nature of Nigerian primary elections, alleging that the process is corrupt and aspirants routinely pay delegates for votes.

​The Edo State politician maintained that Obi possesses the necessary the essential part starting at capacity to reset the nation and completely fix its structural challenges within a four-year period.

​He expressed absolute confidence in the electoral strength of the candidate, predicting that Obi will secure victory across both the southern and northern regions in the upcoming general elections.

​During the extensive interview, the former lawmaker also heavily criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission, describing the body as a mere administrative arm of the presidency rather than an independent institution.

​Ogun additionally expressed his dissatisfaction with the current national legislature, labeling the tenth National Assembly as a rubber stamp establishment.

​He concluded the engagement by officially confirming his personal intention to contest for the Edo Central senatorial seat under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in 2027.
