Project Management Institute (PMI) and Cannes Lions have launched the LIONS Educators Forum, a new global initiative aimed at strengthening collaboration between academic institutions and industry leaders to better prepare students for the demands of the modern workplace.

The initiative seeks to bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry expectations as organisations increasingly place greater value on creativity, collaboration, problem-solving and adaptability in an evolving, technology-driven economy.

In a statement made available to journalists in Lagos, PMI described the Forum as a response to the growing need for closer alignment between education systems and the realities of an AI-enabled workforce.

According to the organisation, rapid technological changes are transforming workplaces across industries, making it essential for educators and employers to work together in equipping students with relevant skills and practical knowledge.

Speaking on the objectives of the initiative, the Chief Marketing Officer of PMI, Menaka Gopinath, said the Forum would focus on developing future-ready curricula and creating stronger pathways between education and employment.

“The LIONS Educators Forum will focus on two core areas: developing future-ready curricula and strengthening pathways between education and employment,” she said.

Gopinath noted that the platform would provide educators with access to industry insights, collaborative discussions and resources designed to help students prepare for careers in the creative and communications sectors.

The Forum will be chaired by Vann Graves and supported by a leadership team from Cannes Lions.

Its activities will include two annual virtual global roundtables bringing together educators and industry professionals to discuss emerging trends, challenges and opportunities within the education and creative sectors.

In addition, a dedicated in-person programme will be held during the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity scheduled for June 22 to 26, 2026, providing participants with direct access to global best practices and industry expertise.

The initiative will also feature a year-round global network designed to encourage collaboration, resource sharing and continuous engagement among educators and professionals worldwide.

Commenting on the significance of the programme, Steve Latham said creativity has become one of the most valuable skills in the global economy, making stronger partnerships between education and industry increasingly important.

As a founding partner, PMI said it would contribute expertise on project management, leadership and workforce readiness, helping educators equip students with the skills needed to transform ideas into measurable outcomes in an increasingly complex and technology-driven world.
