Police Probe Death of Pregnant Woman After Fight

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a pregnant woman following a physical altercation in Abuja.

 

The incident, which police described as a suspected culpable homicide case, occurred on May 31 and involved the pregnant deceased, identified as Alice, and another woman, Grace Kasimu.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that Alice, who was heavily pregnant, developed complications after the fight. She reportedly began bleeding and was rushed to Wuse General Hospital for medical attention.

However, medical personnel at the hospital later confirmed her dead.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, said the suspect, Grace Kasimu, has been arrested and is currently in police custody.

Adeh stated that detectives have commenced a full investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and establish any criminal liability.

She added that the Commissioner of Police has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive investigation and further necessary action.

The police spokesperson assured the public that due process would be followed and that anyone found culpable would be made to face the full weight of the law.

She also urged residents to remain calm and allow investigators to carry out their work while the command continues efforts to uncover the facts surrounding the tragic incident.
