  • Oba Salman Olatunji Aweda, the traditional ruler of Olayinka community in Kwara State, has reportedly died in captivity after being abducted by kidnappers who demanded ₦21 million, two motorcycles, and a jerrycan of petrol as ransom.
  • His death was confirmed by a member of the rescue committee, who said all efforts by family members, community leaders, and religious figures to secure his release failed.

The traditional ruler of Olayinka community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Oba Salman Olatunji Aweda, has reportedly died in captivity after being abducted by kidnappers who allegedly demanded ₦21 million, two motorcycles, and a jerrycan of petrol for his release.

His death was announced in an emotional voice message obtained by SaharaReporters from a member of the committee established to secure his freedom. According to the speaker, efforts by family members, community leaders, residents, and religious figures to rescue the monarch ultimately proved unsuccessful.

The committee member cited an Islamic passage while confirming the monarch’s passing.

“Allah in His mercy said in the Holy Qur’an that we all human beings on earth belong to Him, and to Him we shall return, whether when we expect it or when we do not expect it.”

He added:

“our beloved father… has answered the call of his Creator.”

According to the message, residents were urged to accept the development as the will of God, while plans were announced for Islamic funeral prayers. The committee noted that although the monarch’s body had not yet been recovered, funeral rites could still proceed.

Reports indicate that kidnappers demanded ₦21 million, two motorcycles, and a jerrycan of petrol during negotiations for the monarch’s release. A Kwara resident who was recently freed from captivity reportedly confirmed that the traditional ruler died while efforts to secure his freedom were ongoing.
