Zenith Bank Plc has marked the 2026 World Environment Day with a two-part environmental clean-up exercise in Lagos State, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and responsible corporate practices under the global theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”

The first phase of the initiative took place on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, when staff of Zenith Bank Plc participated in a street clean-up along Ajose Adeogun Street in Victoria Island, Lagos. Employees cleared waste, engaged residents on proper waste disposal practices, and reinforced the Bank’s drive for environmental stewardship and community responsibility.

The second phase was held on Thursday, 4 June 2026, featuring a waterways clean-up at the Falomo Waterways in Ikoyi, Lagos. The exercise was carried out in collaboration with Lagos Waste Management Authority and Lagos State Waterways Authority. It focused on removing marine debris, promoting cleaner waterways, and supporting Lagos State’s climate resilience and environmental protection efforts.

Speaking on the initiative, Adaora Umeoji, Group Managing Director/CEO of Zenith Bank, said sustainability remains central to the bank’s operations. She noted that environmental protection is a shared responsibility, adding that the clean-up exercises demonstrate the bank’s commitment to practical climate action and community impact.

She further stated that Zenith Bank continues to align its operations with global environmental standards while working with key stakeholders to promote sustainable development across Nigeria and beyond.

The bank also reaffirmed its commitment to embedding Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles across its operations, with ongoing investments in green initiatives, energy efficiency, and community development programmes. These efforts, it said, support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).

Zenith Bank added that sustainability remains a core operational priority across its presence in Nigeria, Africa, the United Kingdom, and Europe.
