According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, Chief Chinedu Obidigwe, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented Anambra East and West Federal Constituency, has dismissed a viral social media report alleging that he claimed responsibility for making Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo the Governor of Anambra State.………
Obidigwe described the publication as false, misleading, and deliberately crafted to misinform the public and create political tension. He clarified that neither he nor any member of his media team made such a statement.
The former lawmaker, who is also an aspirant for the Anambra East and West Federal Constituency in the forthcoming general elections, urged members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the general public to disregard the report entirely.
He warned that such fabricated claims are being circulated by individuals he accused of working in collaboration with rival political interests, with the intention of sowing division within the party and damaging his political reputation.
According to him, the timing and nature of the publication suggest a calculated effort to create confusion within APGA and distract from ongoing political activities in the state.
In a statement issued by his Media Assistant, Mr. Dominic Okagbue, Obidigwe categorically rejected the allegation and distanced himself from the content circulating on social media.
“The attention of Hon. Chinedu Benjamin Obidigwe has been drawn to misleading and unfounded claims and propaganda being circulated on various social media platforms through a pseudo account, alleging that Obidigwe said he installed the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, as Governor in 2021,” the statement read.
The statement further emphasized that the report did not originate from any credible source linked to Obidigwe and should be disregarded by the public.
Obidigwe reiterated his commitment to constructive political engagement and cautioned against the spread of fake news capable of distorting facts and undermining democratic processes.
He also called on security and regulatory authorities to monitor the spread of misinformation on social media, especially content capable of inciting political misunderstanding or unnecessary tension.
