The newly deployed Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Benue State, Aminu Idris, has officially taken over leadership of the commission in the state.

Idris reaffirmed INEC’s resolve to guarantee credible electoral processes ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that every qualified Nigerian must be given the opportunity to participate in the democratic process.

Speaking with journalists in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, the REC described the media as an indispensable stakeholder in deepening democracy through accurate dissemination of electoral information and public enlightenment on the Commission’s activities.

He also drew attention to the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which he said had entered its third and final phase, urging eligible residents who are yet to register to do so before the exercise closes.

On the issue of restored state constituencies, Idris disclosed that the exercise had already been concluded in four of the five affected local government areas.

The REC further assured residents of Benue State that INEC would continue to discharge its responsibilities with fairness, transparency and professionalism in line with its constitutional mandate.
