Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has announced a political alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied People’s Movement (APM) ahead of the 2027 general elections, while also declaring his intention to run for president.

Speaking during a mega rally held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, Makinde said the alliance would enable the PDP to field candidates for all elective positions, from the State House of Assembly to the presidency, using the APM platform.

The governor also unveiled what he described as the “Reset Nigeria Movement,” a political movement aimed at mobilising Nigerians dissatisfied with the economic hardship and governance style of the ruling APC administration.

Addressing thousands of supporters at the rally, Makinde said Nigerians must resist attempts to turn the country into a one-party state, insisting that democracy can only thrive through a strong multi-party system.

According to him, worsening economic conditions and insecurity across the country have pushed many citizens into survival mode, adding that opposition parties must unite to offer Nigerians a credible alternative in 2027.

Makinde stated that the alliance between the PDP and APM was proof that opposition forces could work together despite claims that unity among opposition parties was impossible.

He urged Nigerians to actively participate in the political process instead of remaining passive observers, stressing that citizens must confront their fears and work towards rescuing the country.

The governor declared that the “Reset Nigeria Movement” marked the beginning of a new political direction for Nigeria and formally announced his presidential ambition for the 2027 elections.

“Today, I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, announce my candidacy for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said, adding that Nigerians would witness the rebirth of a new nation from May 29, 2027.

Earlier, leaders of both the PDP and APM signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the PDP South-West Secretariat in Ibadan as part of ongoing coalition efforts ahead of the elections.

A member of the PDP Board of Trustees, Eddy Olafeso, praised Makinde for fostering unity among political leaders and commended his leadership style in Oyo State.

The rally later moved to Mapo Hall, where party leaders and supporters gathered to celebrate the alliance.

Oyo PDP Chairman, Dayo Ogungbenro, described the alliance as a major political development that could produce presidents, governors and lawmakers in 2027.

Former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and PDP South-East National Vice Chairman, Ali Odefa, also blamed the APC government for the growing coalition among opposition parties, saying Nigerians were disappointed by unfulfilled campaign promises.

APM National Chairman, Yusuff Mamman Dantalle, alongside other party leaders, expressed optimism that the alliance would help restore Nigeria’s position among leading African nations.

Several political leaders, government officials and party stakeholders from Oyo and other South-West states attended the event.
