Lagos State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to ensure peaceful and credible elections in Lagos State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, following a courtesy visit by officials of INEC to the Command Headquarters in Ikeja.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, received the INEC delegation led by the Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Abayomi Salami.

During the visit, Salami congratulated the police commissioner on his recent appointment and sought the continued partnership and support of the command as preparations for the 2027 elections gradually commence.

The statement noted that the electoral body emphasised the need for sustained collaboration with security agencies to guarantee peaceful, free, fair and credible polls across the state.

“The INEC delegation was led by Prof. Abayomi Salami, the Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), who congratulated the CP on his appointment and sought the continued collaboration and support of the Command as preparations towards the 2027 General Elections gather momentum,” the statement read.

Responding, CP Fatai stressed the importance of synergy between relevant institutions in strengthening democratic governance and boosting public confidence in the electoral process.

He further assured INEC of the command’s readiness to provide necessary security support within the confines of the law.

“He reaffirmed the readiness of the Lagos State Police Command to provide adequate security support and respond positively to all lawful requests by INEC in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities,” the statement added.

The police commissioner also emphasized the importance of inter-agency cooperation in maintaining peace and order before, during and after elections in the state.
