The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims of a secret alliance with the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party said it remains focused on reclaiming power and defeating the APC at the polls.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, stated this during an interview on Tuesday, where he described reports of a partnership between both parties as false and politically motivated.

According to him, the PDP has no political understanding with the APC despite ongoing speculations surrounding Wike’s relationship with the ruling party and President Bola Tinubu.

Mohammed said the PDP was rebuilding its structure and gaining momentum ahead of the next election cycle, insisting that the party remained determined to unseat the APC in 2027.

“Some people have continued to make claims that the PDP is in alliance with the APC, but such statements are mischievous,” he said.

He added that the increasing number of defections into the PDP and the internal challenges within the APC showed there was no reason for the opposition party to seek any alliance with the ruling government.

The spokesman also disclosed that preparations for the 2027 elections had intensified within the party, with screening and nomination exercises already underway across several states.

According to him, governorship and presidential aspirants are expected to undergo screening at Legacy House, while some state-level screenings would be conducted in various states.

Mohammed said the exercise had so far recorded a smooth process, noting that aspirants from Plateau, Taraba, Nasarawa and other states had already returned their nomination forms.

He maintained that party members were showing confidence in the process despite the lingering leadership crisis rocking the PDP.

Meanwhile, another layer of controversy emerged within the opposition party as stakeholders under the PDP Survival Movement defended the existing National Working Committee led by Samuel Anyanwu and Abdulrahman Mohammed.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the group’s president, Okoh Bartholomew, argued that no court judgment had removed Anyanwu from office.

He accused some party leaders of deliberately misrepresenting the recent Supreme Court ruling to create confusion within the PDP.

Bartholomew insisted that Anyanwu was never a party in the cross-appeal being referenced by rival camps and challenged anyone to provide court documents directly linking the former national secretary to the judgment being circulated.

He further argued that no court had dissolved the convention decisions or invalidated the authority of the existing NWC structure aligned with Anyanwu.

The group also questioned the legality of the Tanimu Turaki-led Interim National Working Committee recently approved by the Makinde-backed camp of the party.

According to Bartholomew, those currently defending the caretaker arrangement were the same individuals who once argued that caretaker committees had no constitutional backing within the PDP.

He described the emergence of the Interim National Working Committee as contradictory and politically convenient.

The fresh dispute follows the April 30 Supreme Court judgment which nullified the PDP national convention held in Ibadan in November 2025.

The convention had produced the Tanimu Turaki-led leadership backed by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

Following the ruling, the Makinde-aligned camp moved to constitute a 13-member caretaker committee headed by Tanimu Turaki.
