Residents of the Agbado community in Lagos State took their frustration to the streets on Wednesday, staging a protest at the offices of Ikeja Electric over a power outage that has left the area in darkness for several weeks.

The demonstration, which was largely led by women, saw protesters blocking the entrance to the electricity distribution company’s office as they demanded the immediate restoration of power supply to their community.

According to the residents, the prolonged blackout has taken a serious toll on daily life, disrupting businesses, straining households, and forcing people to spend heavily on alternative power sources such as generators and inverters.

Many of the demonstrators expressed frustration not just over the outage itself, but over what they described as a lack of communication from Ikeja Electric regarding the cause of the problem or when it might be resolved.

They also alleged that multiple complaints previously lodged with the company had gone largely unanswered, leaving them with no choice but to organize the protest.

Carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs, the residents appealed to relevant authorities to step in and provide a lasting solution to the electricity crisis in the area.

In response, Ikeja Electric officials urged residents to remain patient, attributing the outage to technical faults and assuring the community that repair work was actively underway to restore stable power supply.

The protest underscores the deepening frustration among Lagos residents over persistent electricity supply failures and the significant economic hardship that extended blackouts continue to impose on homes and businesses across the state.
