Troops of Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD have rescued a woman and four children during an ambush operation against suspected terrorists in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

This was disclosed by a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, in a post on X.

Makama noted that the operation was conducted at about 6:45 a.m. on May 10 by troops of Combat Service and Infantry Brigade, CSIB, XVI deployed at Forward Operating Base, FOB, Audu Fari.

He said that the troops laid an ambush at Bakpa Village following intelligence reports on the movement of terrorists attempting to cross from Jadua area into the Kainji Lake National Park, KLNP, axis.

“The troops made contact with the terrorists while they were attempting to infiltrate the area.

“On sighting the troops, the terrorists abandoned their families and fled into the forest to evade arrest,” he said.

According to him, the troops subsequently rescued one adult female and four children left behind by the fleeing suspects.

The security expert further disclosed that items recovered from the scene included three motorcycles and one mobile phone believed to belong to the terrorists.

“The rescued victims are receiving necessary care, while efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing terrorists and deny them freedom of movement within the general area.

“The operation formed part of sustained clearance and ambush missions being conducted by troops to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent infiltration around the Kainji Lake National Park and adjoining communities,” he said.
