Human rights activist, Barrister Okere Nnamdi, has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his political relationship with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, accusing him of disloyalty during the administration of the former Nigerian leader.

Nnamdi made the remarks during an interview on Arise News while discussing the current political realignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election and the activities of opposition figures within Nigeria’s political space.

During the interview, the activist described Atiku Abubakar as a politician whose past political conduct continues to generate controversy within the country’s political history.

Speaking on the relationship between the former president and his deputy during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration, Nnamdi alleged that Atiku betrayed Obasanjo politically despite the opportunities he received under his government.

According to Nnamdi:

“Atiku stabbed Obasanjo from the back.”

He further claimed:

“OBJ had to prostrate before he could get the PDP ticket.”

The activist argued that the political disagreements between both men during their time in office contributed to the long-standing tension that later emerged within the PDP.

Nnamdi also suggested that the events surrounding the relationship between Obasanjo and Atiku remain part of the reasons some Nigerians continue to question political loyalty among major politicians in the country.

Speaking further during the interview, he described Atiku as a “disloyal politician,” insisting that political actors should demonstrate consistency and loyalty in their alliances.

According to him:

“Leadership is not only about ambition; it is also about loyalty, trust, and consistency in political relationships.”

The human rights activist also commented on the recent political developments involving former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi. He defended Obi’s reported decision to move from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), arguing that politicians are often compelled to make strategic decisions based on changing political realities.

Nnamdi stated:
