Primate Elijah Ayodele, the Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has stated that he previously warned about the emergence of a deadly disease currently drawing global attention following reports linked to the hantavirus outbreak.

Ayodele made the assertion in a viral video recorded during a church service, where he cautioned that the world could experience a partial lockdown due to the outbreak of a disease.

In the video, the cleric urged the World Health Organization (WHO) to take note of his warning.

“Lockdown is imminent, when I don’t know, but a certain disease is coming, loading, that can bring a partial lockdown globally. Let the World Health Organisation take note,” Ayodele said.

His latest comments come amid reports by the Centre for Emerging Viral Diseases of the Geneva University Hospital (HUG), a WHO collaborating centre, which identified the strain of hantavirus linked to three deaths aboard a cruise ship in the Atlantic Ocean.

According to reports, five confirmed infections were identified among people connected to the cruise ship MV Hondius.

Among the reported fatalities were a Dutch couple and a German national. The first suspected victim, a 70-year-old Dutchman, reportedly fell ill aboard the ship after developing symptoms including fever, headache, abdominal pain and diarrhoea. He later died on April 11 while still on board.

Ayodele’s media aide, Tosin Osho, also released a statement recalling the cleric’s previous warnings ahead of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the statement, Ayodele had, in his 2019 New Year prophecy released in December 2018, warned about the outbreak of a disease that would have a global impact.

The statement further claimed that the cleric urged the WHO and health authorities to pay attention to the warning, but that the advice was allegedly ignored before the COVID-19 outbreak later spread globally.

Ayodele also reportedly warned Nigerian health authorities at the time to prepare adequately for the virus, insisting it would eventually reach the country.

The statement added that the cleric repeatedly predicted that influential individuals would die from the virus and that international travellers would eventually require health certificates during the pandemic period.

COVID-19 later resulted in lockdowns and widespread global health restrictions, including in Nigeria.

The Hantavirus is a severe, often fatal viral disease spread primarily by contact with infected rodents or their urine, droppings, and saliva.

Hantavirus causes two major types of illnesses: Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS), which attacks the lungs, and Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS), which affects the kidney.
