The Borno State Government has disclosed that repentant Boko Haram members must swear an oath with the Holy Quran before they are reintegrated into society. This was revealed by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Zuwaira Gambo, on Monday, May 11, 2026.………
According to the government, this oath is the final step in their rehabilitation programme under the “Borno Model.” It is done in the presence of traditional rulers, religious leaders, and officials to make sure the ex-fighters do not return to violence.
Many Nigerians have reacted on social media. One user wrote: “The same Quran they used to justify killings?” Another said, “This may work for some, but what about victims’ families?” Some praised the move, saying it shows genuine repentance, while others fear it is too risky.
