President Bola Tinubu on Saturday emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary in Ward L2, Eti-Osa LGA of Lagos State, polling 4,996 votes.
Tinubu, accompanied by Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady , arrived at the polling centre in Ikoyi under tight security to participate in the exercise.
The president also secured victory at Ward D3 on Lagos Island, where governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu cast his vote, polling 1,887 votes.
Speaking after voting, Sanwo-Olu praised party members for the peaceful conduct of the exercise and the turnout recorded across the wards.
“I commend the 1,887 votes recorded for President Bola Tinubu. The process has been peaceful and orderly. I thank party members for their patience and support for the APC and our leader,” the governor said.
Tinubu defeated fellow aspirant and businessman, Sterlyn Osifo, in the primary conducted under the APC’s direct primary system.
The ruling party adopted the direct primary method for the 2027 presidential race, allowing party members across the country’s wards to participate in the selection process.
At Ward L2, located at Ireti Nursery and Primary School, Queens Drive, Eti-Osa, party supporters turned out in large numbers as voting commenced around 8 a.m.
Top APC leaders present at the exercise included Governor Sanwo-Olu, former Minister of Finance Wale Edun, Lagos APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi, and party chieftain Kola Peregrino.
Earlier, Ojelabi commended party loyalists for their support and peaceful conduct during the exercise.
“The rewards of your loyalty to the party will yield benefits in due course. Thank you for the wonderful support for our President and the APC,” he said.
Announcing the result, the ward returning officer, Martha Adikwu, said Tinubu polled 4,996 votes out of 5,163 registered voters.
