What did the suspect steal in Kileleshwa parking lot?
He quickly and skillfully removed the grille of the Harrier, causing a loud noise that immediately triggered the car alarm.
Holding the grille, he fled the scene in a bid to avoid being caught.
The alarm rang for several minutes before it was eventually switched off, likely with the owner assuming it was a minor issue.
No one came out to investigate, and the security light near the stairs eventually went off. This incident is one of several recent cases of car grille theft, especially targeting Toyota Harriers.
Recently, three suspects carried out a similar theft in broad daylight along a busy Nairobi road, removing a grille while the car owner was still inside the vehicle.
The owner was unable to stop them as they quickly manoeuvred away with the stolen part.
Such incidents have sparked renewed calls for car owners to remain vigilant, particularly Harrier owners, who are being advised to take extra precautions amid rising theft cases.

The rise in such thefts has sparked concern among car owners, with calls for increased vigilance and better security measures.
Godson Ian:
“If that grill is that easily removed, then Harrier owners should just make a habit of removing it and keeping it in the house, only installing it when taking serious family photos with the car.”
Dan Muli:
“I’m thinking creatively about fitting my car with automatic self-ejecting knives and a toxic spray gun upon sensing a vandal.”
Larry Mwakisha:
“All of a sudden, Harrier grills have become the most wanted car accessory. Si tuzitoe basi tukae bila.”
Kaka Musa:
“The owner of the compound decided to install CCTV instead of a watchman after parking cars worth over 20M… and the compound is also over 20M. Who will open the gate and for whom? If you are five people sharing security, each contributing 3,000, the guard has already gotten his pay.”
