The family of Dada Ajikanje Aderounmu of Ile Oluloke in Share, ifelodun local government area of Kwara State, has publicly distanced itself from portions of a historical publication authored by one Elder Gabriel Yemi Jimoh, of Ile Bale. Describing some of the claims contained in the book as false, misleading and unacceptable.
In a statement issued on behalf of the family, the Aderounmu lineage warned the public against accepting certain narratives in the book titled “SHARE: An Indepth Historical Account” as authentic history, insisting that the publication contains distorted accounts relating to their ancestry and heritage.
The family particularly challenged the narration concerning the lineage of Dada Ajikanje Aderounmu as published on pages 68 and 69 of the book, maintaining that the author failed to present the true historical background of the family.
Furthermore, no individual should attempt to rewrite or distort the history of a people without thorough consultation of credible historical sources and documented evidence, particularly records preserved in the National Archives, which contain verifiable accounts of our heritage.
According to the statement, the disputed portions of the publication should not be relied upon as a credible reference material for the history of Share and its people.
The statement, partly written in Yoruba, stressed that members of the public should disregard the claims made in the book regarding the family’s origin and historical identity.
Dada Ajikanje Aderounmu history have been firmly established and honourably preserved over generations. Such a rich heritage cannot be erased, altered, or rewritten through sentiment, envy, intimidation, or personal interests.
In view of the above, we hereby call on Elder Gabriel Yemi Jimoh to retract the book “SHARE: An Indepth Historical Account” from public circulation, as it does not conform with the authentic history of the Dada Ajikanje Aderounmu lineage, nor does it accurately represent the historical truth of our beloved Share community.
“Therefore We are using this opportunity to inform the whole world that nobody should believe or follow the claims written in the book concerning our family history,” the statement declared.
The family further hinted that necessary steps would soon be taken over the matter, although it did not specify whether legal action or other measures would follow.
