A two-year-old child suspected to have been abducted has been rescued by police operatives in Warri, Delta State, and successfully reunited with the child’s parents.
According to reports, operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS) in Warri intervened on May 10, 2026, at approximately 7:15 p.m., rescuing the child and preventing a mob from lynching a suspect at Igbudu Market, Warri.
The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Fejiro Obaduemu of Idesor Street, Isi Layout, Warri, was intercepted by residents after he was allegedly found carrying the young child concealed inside a sack bag, an act that immediately aroused suspicion of child theft.
Before the angry crowd could inflict serious harm on him, QRS operatives swiftly arrived at the scene, rescued both the suspect and the child, and moved them to safety.
The suspect, who had already sustained injuries from the mob attack before police arrived, was taken to the Police Clinic in Warri for medical attention and subsequently placed in custody for investigation.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed these details in a signed statement released to journalists in Warri on Wednesday.
Follow-up investigations conducted on May 11, 2026, led to the successful identification and location of the child’s parents. The child was formally handed back to the family in the presence of leaders of the Hausa community in Warri.
According to the police spokesperson, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly confessed to having been hired by an unidentified individual to steal the child.
Efforts are currently underway to track down the alleged accomplice and uncover the full extent of any criminal network connected to the case.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, assured residents that the command remains fully committed to safeguarding children and combating all forms of human trafficking and related crimes.
He urged members of the public to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious activity involving children to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
