The National Executive Council of the Nigerian Society for Microbiology (NSM), has inaugurated the new Executives for the North Central Zone, on May 8 2026, via a virtual ceremony.

The event marked the reactivation of the zone to set the stage for renewed scientific and professional engagements across north central states and F.C.T.

The ceremony, anchored by Dr. Daniel Makolo, the Zonal Secretary, was conducted by Prof. S. A. Ado, the NSM National President, who appreciated the new zonal executives for their efforts so far in revitalizing the zone, while charging them to aggressively pursue the core mandates of the society, emphasizing on the strategic importance of the North Central Zone, especially Abuja.

The members of the executive sworn in include: Dr. Gloria G. Ezeagu as Zonal Coordinator (Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja); Dr. Stephen Dare Oloninefa as Assistant Zonal Coordinator (Kogi State University, Kabba); Dr. Daniel Makolo as Zonal Secretary (Baze University, Abuja); Dr. Muinat Olanike Kazeem as Zonal Public Relations Officer (University of Ilorin) and Dr. Adakole Boniface Ella as Zonal Treasurer (Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo).
The National Secretary, Prof. S. Awe, on the occasion, took time to outline the core responsibilities of the executives, and a Fellow of the society, Prof. M. D. Makut, exhorted the new executives on the key steps to success.
Mirroring the society’s broader national mandate to position microbiologists as pivotal drivers of innovation and development, the Zonal Coordinator, Dr. Ezeagu outlined a proactive, forward-looking vision, and emphasized an immediate directive to convene her team to architect a comprehensive 2026 work plan. This strategic blueprint is designed to restore the zone to active participation and elevate microbiology practice across the region’s critical academic and research institutions.

With this decisive and long-overdue reactivation, Dr. Ezeagu and her cohesive team are poised to reposition and deepen the impact of microbiological research and practice through synergy, unity and resilience.
