Olatunji Disu, the inspector-general of police, has ordered massive security deployments across the country ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations to ensure the safety of lives and property.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by DCP Anthony Placid, the force public relations officer who said the Nigeria Police Force had activated enhanced security measures nationwide.

According to the statement, the inspector-general directed commissioners of police and tactical commanders across all state commands and the federal capital territory to intensify proactivepolicing and strengthen security presence in strategic locations.

The deployment will cover Eid prayer grounds, highways, motor parks, recreational centres, critical national infrastructure and other public places expected to witness heavy human traffic during the celebrations.

The police said tactical teams, intelligence operatives and conventional personnel had been mobilised to prevent criminal activities and respond swiftly to security threats.

The statement added that visibility policing, coordinated patrols, surveillance operations and intelligence-led stop-and-search duties would be intensified throughout the festive period.

Disu urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible and timely information capable of preventing security breaches.

“Every Nigerian has a role to play in keeping our communities safe during this festive season. A timely report from a vigilant citizen can save lives,” the IGP said.

He also advised residents to promptly report suspicious movements, unattended bags and unusual gatherings around prayer grounds, markets and other public places.

The police released dedicated emergency lines for distress calls, including 08057000001, 08057000002, 09133333785 and 09133333786.

The IGP further wished Muslims across the country a peaceful Eid-el-Adha celebration and reaffirmed the commitment of the police to national security and public safety.
